ELVIS 7 - Valentines Park 5k - Sunday 28th September 2014 at 10.30am - Report and Results

The ELR members who were in Valentines Park early on Sunday morning to set up the course and the race were thankful that the fine September weather had remained overnight. There was no wind and a high temperature for early morning. By the time the race had started the sun was out and there were plenty of hot perspiring runners crossing the finishing line later.

This race was the 7th and last in the ELVIS Race Series 2014 and once again female runners from east London Runners dominated for the Ladies and Ilford AC for the Men. Both these teams were to win the overall ELVIS 2014 Team races.

Individually for ELR Karen Levison was 1st Female overall in a pb time of 19.21 and Ava Lee 3rd. Sylvia Brown making her competitive debut for ELR had a great race too. The mens race saw Iford AC have a one two with ELR' Euan Brown in a creditable 3rd place.

With 48 runners finishing for ELR we were once again the largest team competing and as can be see in the results all had fine performances.

Special thanks go to all of those from ELR who helped to plan and organise the race both beforehand and on the day. We also again thank Martin Clarke of Ilford AC for his help and guidance.

There was a great turnout of runners and helpers from ELR and it was especially great to see the children having fun in both helping and in their own race after the main event.

The full ELVIS 2014 results will be availble soon and will be published separately together with reports from our ELVIS Captains Ninette Fernandes and Grant Conway.

Please see Race Results here. here ELR Members results can also be seen in our Results Page on this website.

ELVIS 5 - Orion Forest 5 - Saturday 2nd August 2014 - 10am - Report and Results

All ELR results are on our Results page!

Congratulations to the 37 East London Runners who completed the above race on Saturday and a big thanks to our supporters!

A heavy rain shower about half an hour before the race start did little to soften the hard underfoot conditions caused by the recent hot and sunny spell of weather. Although the weather was overcast initially it was still a warm morning but with little wind so ideal off road running conditions if a little hot for some!

With 250 runners finishing the race this was a record field for an Orion Forest 5 race since the series began.

There were memorable debuts from East London Runners from Maya Goodwin and Dan Gritton.

Prizewinners for ELR on the day were Ava Lee and Karen Levinson, 2nd and 3rd overall for the Ladies. Thomas Grimes was 3rd overall for the Men.

In respect of the Forest 5 race Series (3 races) for 2014 ELR Fiona Day was first in the FV55 category and her son Patrick Brown was 1st Male overall in the series. A great family effort!

The scoring will be done on overall position in the race i.e including taking into account other runners from the non 8 competing teams. In the event of a team not closing, points will be allocated based on the position of the last finisher plus 1 and incrementing thereafter by 1 for each unclosed position.

The individual scores will be accumulated to decide the team position for each race and the winners will receive 1 point, 2nd place 2 points, 3rd place 3 points and so on. In the event of a team not closing the number of scorers finishing will also be taken into consideration so that a team with less finishing scorers than another will always finish the lower.

Each team will have its best 5 scores out of the 7 races taken to decide the final team positions. The team with the lowest accumulated score over its best 5 races will be declared the winners. In the event of a tie between 2 teams the team with the lowest accumulated individual scores over the best 5 races will be declared as superior.

If, like us you are feeling all shook up for the summer then read on…

ELVIS is the name given to a series of Interclub Races held May – September which gives us the chance to race en masse as a club and really enjoy our summer running together.

The other competing Clubs are Eton Manor, Barking Road Runners, Havering 90, Dagenham 88,Orion Harriers, Ilford AC, and East End Road Runners.

These races are very low key and friendly so they are perfect for all runners – from those new to racing and wanting experience, to those looking for a few (mostly) midweek miles under their belt with the Club – or of course the dab old hands who turn out every year and will tell you how much they enjoy and value the series.

The distances are either 5K or 5 miles so very manageable – the races are all inclusive and so perfect for a great range of runners with some sprinting all the way and some walk/running. The scoring is unusual in that our score will be improved just by people turning up and running - please ask Grant for the science on this.

There are other benefits of getting involved too…. Grant will adapt the weekly track sessions to provide perfect training for each race – i.e. for the Hilly 5 in July (not that hilly really) or for the flat course at Raphael Park in June.

Ninette and Grant will also be arranging a drink after most of the races to provide everyone with a chance to catch up and toast the evening!

The races, especially the final race at Valentines Park are a great chance to show what we are all about and a good opportunity to involve family and friends in the marshalling and spectating and in putting on the race.

Finally there will be an ELVIS Finale in October where prizes will be awarded to those who ran in all 7 races and also to individuals for their performances throughout the series. Individuals will also be eligible for series prizes as well, although the most important part is the ELR ladies and mens teams doing well in the series and for everyone to have fun!

Ninette and Grant are regulars at the Monday and Wednesday evening sessions so don't hesitate to ask for more details!

We are looking forward to starting off another successful year at ELVIS 2014, let's see if we can better our position of 2013 and repeat our success of the previous years!

Ninette and Grant our ELVIS Captains.
