Club Runner of the Month - December 2018 - Terry Lewsey

Congratulations to Terry Lewsey - ELR Club Runner of the Month for December 2018.




A very successful month for Terry; completing the Run Through Victoria Park Half Marathon in 1.36.47, a PB by nearly 6 minutes. He followed this on 16th December by taking first prize in the Sikhs in the City Dawn to Dusk Half Marathon, finishing in 1.45.45. Afterwards Terry commented, 'I'm so pleased and proud to be able to bring home my first win for East London Runners'. As a fitness and race enthusiast, Terry has also improved his times at other distances including 20.03 for 5k at Parkrun and 72.37 at the Stebbing 10 Mile race. He competed in the Ican Triathlon event in Gandia, Valencia; driving there and back by car! Terry has been a regular for ELR at the ELVIS race series and is a lively character at the Wednesday night club run.

Club Runner of the Month - November 2018 - Peter Hatley

Congratulations to Peter Hatley - ELR Club Runner of the Month for November 2018.





A weekend double header for Peter as he completed the St Neots Half Marathon on 18th November in a time of 1.36.40. The previous day he wore the club colours at the London Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead, recording a time of 53.32 over a challenging 10km course. On 21st October he competed in the Chelmsford Marathon, finishing in a very impressive 3.26.51. Peter continues to represent ELR in the Chingford League, ELVIS and Cross Country Championship races. He also produces consistent performances at distances from 5k/Parkrun, to Half Marathons and Marathons; and has been a great ambassador for ELR throughout him time with the club, volunteering on Wednesday nights and at club events.

Club Runner of the Month - October 2018 - Rachel Le Roux and Karan Gadhia

Congratulations to Rachel Le Roux and Karan Gadhia - ELR Club Runners of the Month for October 2018.





Rachel completed the Bruges Half Marathon on 21st October in a time of 1.53.07; a personal best by over 8 minutes. The previous week she had travelled to Darndale in Ireland for the Parkrun and the following day was in Greenwich competing for ELR (with Michael Bamford) at the Triton Relay Duathlon. She set a new PB of 24.33 at the Valentines Park 5k (ELVIS 8 in September. Rachel is an active member of the club both socially and competitively, with husband Louis always in support. She enjoys a variety of events including duathlons and the Colworth Challenge and is a regular at the ELVIS series, Chingford League, Parkrun and Wednesday club run.

Karan joined the club in March this year and has made great improvement over the last few months. On 14th October he achieved a personal best of 48.25 at the Adidas Shoreditch 10k and the previous week at Valentines Parkrun, he set a 5k personal best of 23.46. Last month he completed the Ealing Half Marathon in a time of 1.48.16, a personal best by over 2 minutes. Karan says, 'I hadn't run more than 8k before the start of 2018; joining ELR was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made'. Karan has also competed in the ELVIS series, Chingford League and at Duathlons. He is a regular at the Wednesday club run and Monday night track sessions.

Club Runner of the Month - September 2018 - Antonio Martin Romero

Congratulations to Antonio Martin-Romero - ELR Club Runner of the Month for September 2018.





Antonio completed the Berlin Marathon on 16th September, re-writing the ELR record books in the process! He finished in a new club record of 2.29.29 (95th position) with negative split times of 1.16.24 and 1.13.15, to improve his PB by seven minutes. After starting at his target pace, he began to overtake many runners. He says, 'I could no longer control my legs and they wanted to keep pushing. My dream was to run a sub 2.30 marathon one day and it is done now'. Antonio had already run an impressive 2.36.23 for 10th place at the Edinburgh Marathon in May, breaking the previous club record. He attributes his success to weeks of hard training and undulating tempo runs. Antonio enjoys many activities including half marathons, cross country, hill training, football and eating carbo loading plates of food!

Club Runner of the Month - August 2018 - Zoila Gilham-Fernandez






A great start for new member Zoila, who was part of the ELR ladies winning team in her first two ELVIS races this month. Making her debut at the Harold Wood 5k, she recorded a time of 21.16 and was 6th Lady overall. She improved on this at the Barking Road Runners 5k with an impressive time of 20.03 (1st ELR lady and 3rd lady overall) and a new PB. Two days earlier, Zoila took the prize for 1st Lady at the Run Through Velo Park Half Marathon setting a new PB of 1.35.07.Improving her previous time by over 5 minutes Zoila said 'This was just a training run for my next marathon - I'm doing Berlin in September'.In addition to running, Zoila is a keen cyclist and is usually the first arrival at the Leisure Centre for the Wednesday evening club run.

Club Runner of the Month - July 2018 - Caroline Frith

Congratulations to Caroline Frith - ELR Club Runner of the Month for July 2018.





Caroline has made a big impact in a relatively short period of time, since joining East London Runners.

Ever present at all 4 of this year's ELVIS races to date, she has won prizes at the Ilford Hilly 5 (ELVIS 4), the Dagenham 88 Runners 5 Miler (ELVIS 1) and also been part of the winning Ladies teams. Caroline recently competed in the Orion Forest 5 Series Race 2 and last month's Endure24 (billed as Glastonbury for runners due to its party atmosphere)! She ran 5 laps of 5 miles helping her team finish in 5th place in the Ladies team event.

Caroline is a very competitive runner and her PB's include 1.31.59 for Half Marathon distance, 42.27 for 10k and 20.18 at parkrun where she is a regular.

Club Runner of the Month - June 2018 - Louis Le Roux

Congratulations to Louis Le Roux - ELR Club Runner of the Month for Jun 2018.




A great few weeks for Louis achieving a number of PBs, starting with the Vitality London 10,000m which he finished in a time of 40:59. He followed this at ELVIS 2 - Havering Joggers 5 Mile Race (31:20 PB) and ELVIS 3 - East End Road Runners Midsummer 5k (18:57 PB). Last month Louis completed the Ironman in the heat of Barcelona (1.2 Mile swim, 56 Mile Cycle and 13.1 Mile run) in a time of 7:10:58. Most recently he was part of the ELR men's winning team at the Colworth Marathon Challenge. In between BBQ and beers, he finished the three day series in 10th position overall. Louis is happy to assist at the Wednesday evening run or at club events and always provides motivation to the other runners.

Club Runner of the Month - May 2018 - Jimmy Dale

Congratulations to Jimmy Dale - ELR Club Runner of the Month for May 2018.




Jimmy joined East London Runners in October 2017 and has been focusing on the longer distance challenges. On 13th May he completed the 'hilly' Halstead and Essex Marathon in a personal best time of 3.52.57. The following weekend he achieved a personal best time of 1.40.04 at the Hackney Half Marathon. Having signed up for an Ironman, Jimmy decided that the best preparation would be to run a marathon a month! Since March, he has also competed in the Thames Meander Trail Marathon, Greater Manchester Marathon and Brighton Marathon. A regular at the track and club events, Jimmy is set to make his debut for ELR in the ELVIS series at the Dagenham 5 Mile race on 30th May and can look forward to the Chicago Marathon in October.

Club Runners of the Month - April 2018 - Ciaran Canavan and Jo Wood

Ciaran, having overcome recent illness and with little preparation, Ciaran competed in the Boston Marathon on 16th April. After enduring head winds of over 40 MPH and torrential downpours of rain throughout, he finished the race in a time of 3.11.54. Ciaran has produced many outstanding performances during his 10+ years with the club; from marathon distance down to 5k. He is an inspiration to everyone and always happy to give advise to others. Although he admits to being a competitive road runner, Ciaran says he enjoys the social side to East London Runners joining in with the various events and activities. Ciaran has worked tirelessly on the committee for a number of years and holds the role of ELR race volunteer coordinator.

Joanna completed the Brighton Marathon on 15th April in a time of 5.28.29, despite suffering a cracked rib and illness in the weeks leading up to race day. Joanna achieved a PB which was 49 minutes faster than her previous marathon; Sikhs in the City - Dawn to Dusk. A keen competitor for East London Runners, she has also completed a number of 5km, 10km and Half Marathons since joining the club in 2016. Joanna is always in pursuit of a new PB and works hard in training to achieve this result. She is a valued member of the club, enjoys attending and helping out at club functions and is an outstanding baker of cakes! Joanna has recently joined the committee and says she is looking for new ways to support the club.



Club Runner of the Month - March 2018 - Mark Moir

Congratulations to Mark Moir - ELR Club Runner of the Month for March 2018.

Mark completed the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in a new personal best time of 1.29.33 and won 2nd place prize in the Greenwich Park 10k Winter Series in a time of 42.06. He has also achieved his goal of setting a sub 20 min. PB at Parkrun (19.17) and a new 10k PB (41.14). Mark has competed for the club in the National and South of England Cross Country Championship races, ELVIS series, cross country and Chingford League. Mark said his improvement is a result of all his training since joining East London Runners. He works hard at track sessions and Wednesday club runs; finding time also to relax at club social events. Mark will be running his debut Marathon in Greater Manchester on 8th April.




Club Runner of the Month - February 2018 - Ellie Wilkinson




Congratulations to Ellie Wilkinson - ELR Club Runner of the Month for February 2018.

Ellie was part of the ELR team which took the trophy for first place in the Roding Valley Half Marathon on 25th February. Finishing in 63rd position and setting a personal best time of 1.36.23, she also claimed the award for 3rd lady. The previous day she represented the club in the National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill, Hampstead, finishing 453rd out of 1,100 ladies. Ellie has established herself as one of the fastest female runners in the club, with PB times of 20.12 for 5k, 70.57 over 10 miles and 3.37.22 for the marathon. An active and popular member of the club, she has served on the committee and is a regular at the Monday track, Wednesday club runs and ELR social evenings.

Club Runner of the Month - January 2018 - Diana Rexhepaj




Congratulations to Diana Rexhepaj - ELR Club Runner of the Month for January 2018.

Diana competed for ELR in the South of England AA Cross Championships at Brighton on 27th January and at the Benfleet 15 the previous weekend. Her other recent events include the Haven House Chasing Elves 10KM and Ilford AC 10 Mile cross country race. One of her biggest achievements has been completing the Mince Pi Ultra Run, covering a distance of 28.2 Miles in 6hrs 3mins, over 9 laps of the course. Diana is an enthusiastic competitor for ELR and also runs in the Chingford League, ELVIS, Cross Country and Parkrun. With her quiet and friendly manner, Diana is a regular at the Wednesday club night, Monday track, Sunday runs and club socials.
