Club Runner of the Month 2017

Club Runner of the Month - December 2017 - Karen Levison

Congratulations to Karen Levison - ELR Club Runner of the Month for December 2017.



Karen competed in and won outright, the Sikhs in the City 'Dawn to Dusk Sunlight Ultra' on 17th December. She overcame freezing and icy conditions to complete 36 laps of the undulating multi lap course in a time of 7 hours 30 minutes, covering a distance of 72KM (44.7 Miles). With her injury problems behind her and with the support of her husband and fellow club members Karen says; "in the last hour I realised I could win the race outright - something I'd never achieved before!"
She has been running sub 20 minute times again for 5KM, placing her First Lady at Parkrun and is top of the East London Runners 5KM age grade chart for 2017. (85.76%).
Karen continues to represent the club with distinction and is a great ambassador for ELR.

Club Runner of the Month - November 2017

Congratulations to Roselin Boramakot and Kat Maskell - ELR Club Runners of the Month for November 2017.

After joining the club in June, Roselin trained for and completed the Berlin Marathon, Beachy Head Marathon and this month's Verona Marathon, where she improved her time to 4.44.47. A great achievement in a short period of time. She also set a 10km PB of 57.16 at the Red Run in Victoria Park and a 5km PB of 27.18 at Hackney Parkrun. Roselin has also competed for the club at Cross Country and the ELVIS series of races. Roselin has worked very hard for these results, especially at the Monday track and Sunday training run - once turning up for a long canal run the day after one of her marathons!

Kat has completed a number of half marathons including this month's Richmond HM and Thames Meander Trail HM, where she recorded a PB time of 1.54.37. She improved her 5km time to 24.11 at Hackney Parkrun and her 10km time to 51.09 at the Shoreditch City Run. Kat also competes for the club in the ELVIS series of races and at Cross Country. A good all rounder, Kat recently took part in the Brighton & Hove Triathlon and the 'Marathon' swim 5km at the Aquatics Centre. She often cycles a considerable distance just to get to a venue, even if it means missing out on the pre-race team photo!




Club Runner of the Month - October 2017

Congratulations to Michael Bamford - ELR Club Runner of the Month for October 2017.

Michael completed the famously hilly Beachy Head Marathon (his marathon debut) on 28th October, in a time of 4.29.57 - 394th out of 2,156 finishers. The previous weekend he was 1st in his age group (6th overall) at the Castle Ashby Duathlon (sprint distance) and on 8th October at the Plymouth 10k set a PB time of 42.46. A keen cyclist, he has competed in many other Duathlons including the recent Greenwich Tritons Relay and Descente London Duathlon. Michael is a regular at the Chingford League and ELVIS races and assists other runners at the Wednesday club run. He also takes an active part in the ELR social life, travelling to various events including the Colworth weekend with his club mates.

Club Runner of the Month - September 2017

Congratulations to Andy Bee Bolderstone and Stuart Norris - ELR Club Runners of the Month for September 2017.

'Marathon Man' Andy completed the Berlin Marathon in September, having already run in the Paris and London events earlier in the year. (Two PB's in three races). With over 1,000 miles already logged for 2017, he is now preparing to run the Venice Marathon in October! Andy has also competed in many other events including the ELVIS and Forest 5 series, Southend Half Marathon and the recent Harlow 10 Mile race. He is a regular at Monday track night and the Wednesday club run, where he is always happy to assist other runners.

Stuart is one of the club's newer members and has already shown improvement, achieving a PB of 21.51 at the Valentines Park 5K (ELVIS 7). He was also a part of the team that competed in the Essex Way relay earlier in the month. He has run in two other ELVIS races since joining ELR in July and is a 'kindly face' at the Wednesday club run. Stuart's next races include the Essex Cross Country Relay Championships and Chingford League fixtures. He will continue to progress with the prospect of many more PB's in the future.





Club Runner of the Month - August 2017

Congratulations to Alexandra Rutishauser-Perera - ELR Club Runner of the Month for August 2017.




This month Alexandra achieved a PB (by 9 mins) at the Run Through Velo Park Half Marathon and ran well at the Barking Road Runners 5k (ELVIS 6) two days later. She has been ever present at this year's ELVIS series, completed a number of other half marathons and also the Colworth Challenge 3 day event. She continues to improve and says she has become a stronger runner since joining ELR a year ago. Alexandra is committed to training at the Monday track, Wednesday club and Sunday long run. A bubbly character, she enjoys relaxing at club socials and outings. Alexandra's future challenges include the Tough Mudder (part of a charity team event), Beachy Head Marathon and Sikhs in the City Dawn to Dusk Sun Light Ultra!





Club Runner of the Month - July 2017

Congratulations to Jason Levy - ELR Club Runner of the Month for July 2017.




Jason was part of the team of 5 that competed in the Spitfire Scramble 24 hour ultra relay. As coordinator he helped his team mates complete a total of 142.5 miles over 25 laps. (28.5 miles each). The following week at the London Triathlon, he set a new PB - by 11 mins 11 secs, to finish in 3.17.01 (Olympic Distance). Also in July, he run at the Great Newham 10k, Ilford Hilly 5 (ELVIS 4) and Parkrun, where he is a regular. Setting himself a new challenge, Jason has been very helpful in pacing and giving encouragement to less experienced runners. A friendly and popular member of the club, you are also likely to see Jason in action for ELR at Duathlon events, Cross Country, Half Marathon's and Marathon's (Brighton in particular) amongst others!






Club Runner of the Month - June 2017

Congratulations to Jennifer Ansell - ELR Club Runner of the Month for June 2017.




Jenny has produced some stunning results in June, starting with 1st Lady at the Orion Forest 5 Series - (Race 1), in a time of 32.50. She followed this with 3rd Lady at the Chase the Sun (QEOP) 10k recording a time of 39.33 and when temperatures soared back at the Olympic Park for ELVIS 3 and the E.E.R.R. 5k, she coolly swept to victory in a remarkable 19.10. She wrapped up a fine month at the Colworth Marathon Challenge - 1st Lady in all three events! In addition to the summer races, Jenny is also a top competitor for the club at cross country and in the Chingford League. A bubbly and vibrant personality, she is a welcome addition to the ELR committee.




Club Runner of the Month - May 2017

Congratulations to Lucy Barron - ELR Club Runner of the Month for May 2017.




Lucy completed the Edinburgh Marathon in a PB of 4.14.05, improving her previous time for this distance by 17mins. She also set a new best time of 40.28 at the recent Dagenham 88 Runners 5 Mile - ELVIS 1. As part of her winter training, Lucy ran the 20 Mile Marathon Prep Race at Dorney Lake, Windsor, finishing in under 3 hours. She also achieved a PB at the Victoria Park Half Marathon. (1.51.45). Lucy has steadily improved her Parkrun times and also competes for ELR in the Chingford League and Cross Country Championship races. An active member of the club, Lucy is a regular at the Wednesday night run and an ever present part of the lively ELR social scene!




Club Runners of the Month - April 2017

Congratulations to Thomas Grimes and Antonio Martin Romero - ELR Club Runners of the Month for April 2017.




Thomas completed the 2017 London Marathon setting a new club record time of 2.38.01 and improving on his PB by 2 mins 56 secs! During April he also set PB's in the Lee Valley Run Fest Half Marathon - 1.14.19 (2nd place) and the Vets AC Battersea 5 Mile - 26.51 (1st). In March, he was part of the ELR silver medal winning team at the Essex Road Relays. Thomas has recorded 1st places at parkrun, runs in Chingford League and won trophies competing for ELR at many other races including ELVIS and cross country, where he is a regular. Modest of his excellence and achievements as an athlete, Thomas is a past winner of this award and the holder of the ELR club runner of the year award.

Antonio completed the 2017 London Marathon in a time of 2.38.04, beating the old club record and improving his PB by 4 mins 33 secs! In his race build up he run the Benfleet 15 in 1.40.28 (9th place), The Essex 20 in 2.00.48 (23rd) and the Paddock Wood Half Marathon in April, setting a new PB of 1.15.37. He completed his marathon training in Spain, running the Sherry Marathon among the vineyards of Jerez. A runner of exceptional ability, Antonio has competed for ELR in ELVIS, Chingford League, parkrun and cross country where he is a regular. Already setting new targets for improvement, you will often find Antonio relaxing in the local pub or restaurant enjoying a healthy post race meal!




Club Runner of the Month - March 2017

Congratulations to Suzanne Bench - ELR Club Runner of the Month for March 2017.

A great start to the year for Suzanne, who has produced some excellent race performances in her build up to running April's London Marathon.

She completed the Thanet 20 - 'high winds and hail stones' - in under 3 hours; was 1st lady in a Wanstead Flats Parkrun and also run in the Orion 15. She competed in the Benfleet 15 in January and last month achieved a PB of 1.44.53 in the Victoria Park Half Marathon.

Suzanne is a long serving and valued member of ELR and a regular at ELVIS, Track, club socials and other events. Suzanne is also always willing to help other runners on Wednesday club runs or the Sunday social run.









Club Runners of the Month - February 2017 - Emily Clarke and James Nichols



Emily recorded a time of 1.36.30 at the Roding Valley Half Marathon this month (a PB by 7 minutes!) to finish an impressive 5th Lady overall. She has also competed in the ELVIS series, Chingford League, Parkrun and finished The Great South Run (10 Miles) in a time of 1.15.50. Emily joined the club in June 2016 and has improved very quickly as a result of her training regime which includes the Wednesday club run, Weekend long distance run and speed sessions at the track on Monday evenings. Emily is currently training for the Greater Manchester Marathon in April.



This month James ran the Seville Marathon in a time of 3.21.08 (a PB by 6 minutes!) and managed to achieve negative splits in the process. He has also improved his times for 5k and 10k distances, recording a PB of 39.20 at the Run Through Victoria Park 10k. He credits his latest success to his race strategy and training plan which include Monday evening track sessions, Wednesday club run and Weekend long distance run. Using Seville Marathon as part of his training programme, James has now set a new target when he runs the London Marathon in April.
